CHARLES PHILIPPEAU (About 1629 – 23 December 1665) and

CATHERINE BOUTET (1642-1692)

Louis-Charles Philippeau originated in Lorraine, France, the son of François Philippeau and Françoise Rutant. His exact birth date is unknown but occurs sometime around 1629. He is generally referred to as Charles.

On 26 January 1654, Charles Philippeau signed a marriage contract with Catherine Boutet, prepared by the notary Audouart. Catherine Boutet was born in 1642 in Saintes, Charente-Maritime, Saintonge, France, the daughter of Martin Boutet and Catherine Soulange. Catherine Boutet was baptized on 15 March 1642 in Sceaux, Hauts-de-Seine, France. She was also known as Catherine Boutet dit St-Martin.

The religious ceremony takes place in front of witnesses and friends on 19 May 1654 in Notre-Dame de Québec.

Three children are born to the couple between 1660 and 1665: René Philippeau in 1660; Françoise Philippeau, born on 8 December 8, 1663, through which our family line traces via Lavoie to Parent; and the third, Marie-Ursule Philippeau, born in 1665.

Françoise Philippeau is baptized on 9 December 1663, in Québec. At 16 years, she becomes the wife of René Senard on 9 January 1679. René Senard was born about 1650 in St-Sebastien, of Nantes, in Bretagne (Brittany). Their daughter Françoise Senard, born on 5 February 1680, becomes the wife Jean Filion on 6 June 1695. Jean Filion is born on 31 October 1667, son of Antoine Filion and Anne d' Anneville.

The ancestor Charles Philippeau, an experienced arms manufacturer and trade metal worker ("maître armurier et serrurier de métier"), dies on 23 December 1665 and is buried the following day in Québec.

His widow Catherine Boutet, who must provide for her three children, remarried on 8 March 1666. Her second husband, Jean Soulard, is also an arms manufacturer and arquebusier. They have nine children together.

Catherine Boutet becomes a grandmother. She dies in Québec City and is buried there on the 1st of June 1692.

Note: "Serrurier" also refers to a locksmith.
