The Gaudin patronym comes from the old Germanic Christian name originally formed of two words meaning god and good. The great majority of the descendants sign their name Godin. The most prolific of the Godin who came to New-France was Charles Godin, born about 1631, son of Jacques Godin and Marguerite Nieule. They originate in Aubermesnil-Beaumais, canton of Offranville, in Dieppe in the archbishopric of Rouen, in Normandie, France.

Arriving in Québec about 1653, Charles Godin marries Marie Boucher by contract (01 Oct 1656 Audouart) on November 6, 1656 in Beaupré and registered at Notre Dame de Québec. She was 12 years old, baptized on April 11, 1644, daughter of Marin Butcher and Perrine Mallet. In the census of 1666, Charles Godin is recorded as 35 years old and Marie Boucher 22 years. In the 1667 Census he is listed as age 38. Later in the 1681 Census in Beaupré (L'Ange-Guardien) [MSGCF 111 (3): 205] he is show as age 45. In the 1681 Census the Godin family's immediate neighbors are Nicolas Roussin in the east and Jacques Savaria on the west. The marriage produced nineteen children, all christened at L'Ange-Gardien.

The children included Marie Godin, born on April 27, 1662, in Château-Richer. In 1687 she becomes the wife of Pierre Denis, known as Lapierre, born about 1663, originating in St-Martin de Layrac. Their daughter Marie Denis, born in 1690, is married in 1713 to Jean Baillargeon, born in 1686, son of Jean Baillargeon and Marie-Anne Godbout.

Another Godin girl, Marguerite, born on March 8, 1665, married Guillaume LeTardif in 1687. He was born in 1655, the son of Olivier LeTardif and Émard Barb.

Most important to our lines is Angélique Gaudin, born on June 24, 1677. It is through her marriage on May 12, 1698 to Jacques Amyot, born in 1669, that we descend. On February 03, 1721, their daughter Marie-Angélique Amyot, born July 13, 1701, married André Marcoux, born September 22, 1686. In turn, their daughter Marie-Louise Marcoux born on October 24, 1736, married Nicolas Parent, born October 24, 1736. Their marriage of January 19, 1750, produced four children, including Pierre-Nicolas Parent, born November 13, 1764, who married Marie-Madeleine Baillargeon, born about 1770. It is through their son Pierre and his wife Marie-Louise Bédard that the line carries down to the present day.

The Godin's youngest child, Antoine, born on September 2, 1688, married Catherine Jacob in 1712. Catherine Jacob was the sister of Marguerite Jacob, married to Pierre Trudel. Both were daughters of Étienne Jacob and Jeanne Fressel. Antoine and Catherine have eight children at Pointe-aux-Trembles. The eldest, also named Antoine Godin like his father, was born on July 13, 1713, and later in 1740 married Marie-Thérèse Toupin, born in 1717, daughter of Jean-Baptist Toupin and Marie-Thérèse Turcot. Marie-Josephe Gaudin, the daughter of Antoine and Marie-Thérèse in the fourth generation, married Charles Lauriot in 1768.

Our ancestor Charles Godin died in Québec between 1 December 1, 1706 and January 18, 1712. His widow Marie Boucher died sometime after January 18, 1712.
